Each year, nearly 200 young people travel from every corner of the small West African nation of Togo to participate in a summer camp experience unlike any other. Since 2001, Volunteers with the United States Peace Corps have partnered with Togolese non-profit organizations to run an educational youth program called Camp UNITE. Peace Corps Volunteers and representatives of Togolese non-profits serve as counselors, guiding campers through a “Life Skills” curriculum designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to lead healthy, productive lives.
